What we do

Prepare the application, and stay with the file.

The Copyright Office registers claims. It does not give you legal advice about whether your work is protected, who owns it, or what a lawsuit will do. We prepare the application and tell you what the papers in front of us actually say.

Application preparation

Attorney-prepared U.S. copyright registration applications from $200, plus Copyright Office fees. A $65 fee is the current electronic Standard Application, and it is not a flat fee for every filing. A $45 Single Application fee applies only when the claim qualifies. Other filings cost more.

What the application can and cannot do

Registration is a claim in a work, examined by the Office. It is not a court judgment that you own the work, and it is not a license from anyone else. We will say which of those you are actually asking for.

Office correspondence

If the Office writes back about the deposit, the authorship, or the claim, the response is the case. Deadlines are short. We quote that work separately from the $200 starting preparation fee.

Recordation and later filings

Transfers, supplementary registrations, and other Office filings have their own fees and their own scope. We price the document you actually need, not a bundle.

Federal copyright disputes

Counsel on a federal copyright case when you have the complaint, the opinion, or another primary source. Pleadings stay allegations until a court decides them. We do not promise a result.

What we will not dress up

We do not invent case names, holdings, or client results for the site. News waits until a public primary source supports the note.

Call, or describe the work you want to register.
