What was filed

Watson Music Group, LLC d/b/a Quadrasound Music v. iLearn Schools Inc., No. 2:26-cv-12973 (D.N.J.), was filed October 5, 2026 (6 pages). Watson is a Florida limited liability company that describes itself as an independent music publisher that acquires, administers, and licenses musical compositions. iLearn is a New Jersey corporation that the complaint says operates public charter schools across several New Jersey campuses. (Compl. paras. 1, 2, 6, 10.)

The work

The complaint alleges Watson owns, by assignment or purchase, all composition rights in Space Jam, the theme song of the motion picture of the same name, and attaches the registration information as Exhibits A and B. (Compl. paras. 7 to 9, 21.)

What the complaint alleges

It alleges that on February 18, 2016, after the composition was registered, iLearn published or broadcast it to advertise or promote its business, that iLearn has never been licensed, and, on information and belief, that iLearn copied it from the internet rather than seek a license. It says Watson discovered the use in October 2023 and then notified iLearn in writing. (Compl. paras. 12 to 17.)

Count and relief

Count I alleges direct, vicarious, and/or contributory infringement under 17 U.S.C. 501 and alleges willfulness, pointing to the copyright notice on iLearn's own website. Watson seeks declarations of infringement and willfulness, actual damages and profits or statutory damages, costs and fees under 17 U.S.C. 505, interest, and a permanent injunction. (Compl. paras. 19 to 30; Prayer.)
