The complaint
Tikbooks Inc. v. Chris's Sports LLC d/b/a Bearing Love, No. 2:26-cv-10083 (C.D. Cal.), was filed September 9, 2026 (15 pages). Tikbooks alleges it owns the cover artwork and book text of 100000 Whys: Building the Ultimate Brain for Kids, created in 2025 and first published August 1, 2025, registered by the Copyright Office on December 26, 2025 as VA0002490624 (cover artwork) and TX0009604619 (book text). It describes the cover as a dark-blue, space-themed design with ornamental gold elements, a rocket, and a framed central cartoon illustration. (Compl. paras. 2, 26 to 33.)
What it alleges
The complaint alleges that the defendant sold a book listed as "Children's Encyclopedia [Why 100,000?] Extracurricular Reading for Primary School Students NoteBooks" whose listing copies the cover's title treatment, colors, framing, and layout, and that the copy delivered on an August 18, 2026 test order to Ontario, California reproduces the cover more closely, without the TIKBOOKS logo, along with substantial portions of the book text, illustrations, and page layouts. It alleges the listing showed about 4,100 units sold. It pleads copyright infringement under 17 U.S.C. 106 and 501. (Compl. paras. 5 to 8, 13 to 14, 34 to 37.)
Relief sought
Tikbooks asks for a declaration of infringement, preliminary and permanent injunctions, an order to stop sales of the accused book, actual damages and profits under 17 U.S.C. 504(b), interest, and costs and available attorneys' fees. (Compl. Prayer A to G.)
