The complaint
Get After It Media, Inc. v. Alex Meruelo, Meruelo Television, LLC, and Charter Communications, No. 2:26-cv-10455 (C.D. Cal.), was filed September 15, 2026, ECF No. 1 (11 pages). The plaintiff, which calls itself GAIM, demands a jury trial. Its caption lists claims for copyright infringement, false designation of origin, trademark infringement, violation of California Penal Code section 496(a), and conversion.
The works
GAIM alleges it owns a library of copyrighted films, television shows, and other entertainment content, that it holds federal trademarks for its Retro and Heartland channels, and that broadcasters can air the content only with access codes GAIM provides under its agreements.
What the lawsuit alleges
GAIM alleges that under two agreements dated February 13, 2023, it bought time on two of Meruelo TV's digital television channels for its Retro and Heartland content, and that both agreements ended by their terms on February 14, 2026. It alleges, on information and belief, that Meruelo TV deliberately kept broadcasting the content for at least four months afterward without permission, and that Charter retransmitted it under retransmission agreements with Meruelo TV. The first claim pleads copyright infringement under 17 U.S.C. § 101 et seq. against Meruelo TV and Charter.
